MIRKKA METSOLA aw13 "SNOW WHITE" with RITA HILL

Mirkka Metsola’s eight signature collection ”Snow White” was born in collaboration with a Finnish visual artist Rita Hill. The partnership was born in a common friends summer wedding where the now good friends met for the first time. A common dark tone of creative thought was found quickly and the new collection was created during the long Nordic winter nights.

”Grimm’s tales, the Snow White especially, are well known to both from the childhood. Both the collection and the exhibition take a new, different approach to the classic story, reflecting it to the contemporary time. Narcissism touches everyone’s lives in its various forms but its most destructive force comes out when it occurs within a family and functions as a tool of power. In Grimm’s tale the focus is on the narcissistic stepmother and her disastrous relationship with Snow White. We wanted to present this current theme trough a well known tale in order to make it easier for the recipient to approach the problem. Grimm’s tales are equally beautiful and brutal, making them very human”.

Grimm’s original story is dark and desolate. The aging woman blinded by her vanishing beauty feels her life running from her hands as there is no relief for aging. The blossoming daughters beauty becomes a threat and a source of bitterness and rage to the mother graving after youth lost. The daughter of the narcissistic mother suffers of a sense of inadequacy in a fight between good and evil. ”Snow White” tells a dramatic story of a beautiful woman’s troublesome path of finding herself and becoming whole again. 

Grimm’s tale is the inspiration and motivation behind both Mirkka Metsola’s ”Snow White” series and Rita Hill’s artwork. The collection consists of dramatic clothing and evening dresses. Rita Hill’s abstract patterns are repeated in silk, chiffon and jersey, creating stunning contrasts in the deep autumn colors. Soft cashmere silk scarves and other autumn accessories spice up the collection. 

Rita Hill’s baroque spirited surrealistic artwork has been made on canvas using mixed media techniques. In order to bring depth to the narcissistic theme and to link the viewer to the whole she also uses mirrors as a canvas in an interesting way. The theme of the exhibition runs trough in the patterns designed for Mirkka Metsola in an abstract but recognizable form. The key elements in the works and patterns are raven’s wings, baroque mirrors and mother-daughter character.

Krista Siegfrids (Finland's representative at The Eurovision Song Contest 2013) looked stunning in Mirkka Metsola's unique catsuit yesterday at the Emma Gala music awards. Stylist Vesa Silver wanted Krista Siegfrids to wear black catsuit made out of leather and of course he called me for the job. This was my vision when I tought of Batwoman - Barbarella - Catwoman - Rock n´Roll Barbie as Krista describes her self. We are so happy and proud of the completion as it turned out to look just like Mirkka Metsola - Krista Siegfrids - Vesa Silver collaboration!!

Dazzling Armi Toivanen wearing Mirkka Metsola

One of the most hyped actress in Finland right now, fabulous and gifted rising star of the Putous -tv serie Armi Toivanen was wearing Mirkka Metsolas red lace dress at Golden Venla Gala 2013. Armi looked dazzling in our custom made girly gown when she went on stage with her Putous colleagues to collect the winning award of the best comedy serie of the year 2012. We are more than happy and very honoured to dress her. We call this red dress "The 1st Episode", because few things will follow with the collaboration of Armi Toivanen and Mirkka Metsola. Tänä vuonna Linnanjuhliin Mirkka Metsola suunnitteli eteerisen iltapuvun urheilija Toni Piispasen vaimolle Anu Piispaselle. Paralympialaisissa kultaa voittaneen Toni Piispasen vaimo nähdään Mirkka Metsolan silkkisessä uniikkipuvussa, jossa kullanhohto yhdistyy puuterin ja roosan sävyihin. Kokonaisuutta täydentävät Mirkka Metsolan valikoimat asusteet ja kengät sekä korumuotoilija Mia Mannerilta tilatut upeat uniikkikorut.

Itsenäisyyspäivän vastaanotto Yle TV1:llä klo.18.50 sekä livekommentointi klo. 18.00 alkaen AVA TV:n nettisivuilla.

Mirkka Metsola designed an ethereal evening gown for Anu Piispanen to wear at this years Presidential Independence Day reception. Anu Piispanen who is the wife of Toni Piispanen (who won gold at this years Paralympics) is wearing luminous powder based unique evening gown with golden draped details. Mirkka Metsola was also pointed to choose customers accessories and shoes to complement the whole look. Unique jewellery is handmade and designed by Mia Manner, finnish jewellery designer.

"BATTLE" MIRKKA METSOLA SS13 -collection

Mallisto on saanut inspiraationsa aikamme naisista, jotka taistelevat matadorien elkein onnensa eteen tehden pieniä uhrauksia suurten asioiden puolesta. "Battle" on heijastus naisesta, joka Feenikslinnun lailla nousee talven huurteesta kevään vihreään tuoksuun. Lentää kohti kesän kullanhohtoista aurinkoa keräten kukkaisniittyjen värit iholleen. Repaleisena, mutta vahvempana kuin koskaan hän palaa kesäöiden hemmotteluun taas seuraavana vuonna.

Feeniks naista kunnioittaen ”Battle” -malliston vaatteet ovat käytännöllisiä, naisellisia ja mukavia. Materiaaleiltaan pehmeät ja laadukkaat tuotteet tuovat iholle silkin, pellavan, puuvillan ja viskoosin keveyden. Abstraktin ”Meadow”-printin väreissä hehkuvat kukkaniityn psykelia jota rauhoittamaan on tuotu malliston pastelliset värit kuten lime, laventeli, vadelma ja hiekka. Asusteissa on käytetty laadukasta poronnappaa joka suomalaisuudellaan kunnioittaa eettisiä ja ekologisia arvojamme. Matadori naisen asennetta henkii malliston ”Battle”- kuosi sekä mustavalkoiset puuvillapitsiset mekot, korkeavyötäröiset housut ja mukavat leoparditunikat.
